Midnight Remedy & Award-Winning Author Eve Gaddy

Get Lost in a Story Readers, today I'm pleased to bring you the prolific Eve Gaddy who's with us today to talk about MIDNIGHT REMEDY, brought to you from Bell Bridge Books .

ABOUT MIDNIGHT REMEDY:

Piper Stevenson's mysterious "potion" cured one of Dr. Eric Chambers' patients. Dr. Chambers is determined to unravel the secret of her painful past. But can they heal each other's hearts?

He brought her hand to his lips and gently kissed the knuckles. Her scent, as rare and delicate as one of her orchids, assaulted his senses.

"What-what are you doing?"

She sounded breathless, he noticed, pleased. He turned her hand over and grazed his lips across it. Hiding a smile, he answered her. "Changing the subject."

"Well . . . well . . . don't." She tried to pull her hand loose, but he kissed her wrist again. His lips traveled to her open palm.

"Don't what?" "For heaven's sake, we're in a restaurant," she hissed.

"I know. If we weren't, I wouldn't be kissing just your hand." Dropping a last kiss on her wrist, he regretfully let go, gazing at her mouth and schooling his features into an innocent guise.

"Stop trying to . . . to . . . to seduce me," she whispered loudly. A slow smile spread over his face.

Reviews: "A sparkling-fresh love story . . . Four Stars" — Romantic Times, Melinda Helfer

"This book is fabulous; the plot is original and fresh. The characters are darling and the sexual tension simmers . . ." — Rendezvous

Eve Gaddy's writing career began when she was in search of the perfect job and a friend challenged her to write a novel. Naturally, she thought of romance, since that is one of her favorite things to read. Once she began it was love at first type and she's been writing ever since. Eve is the award-winning author of sixteen novels. Her books have won and been nominated for awards from Romantic Times, Golden Quill, Bookseller's Best, Holt Medallion, Texas Gold, Daphne Du Maurier and more. She was nominated for a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Innovative Series romance as well as winning the 2008 Romantic Times Career Achievement award for Series Storyteller of the year. While a confirmed native Texan, Eve loves the mountains of Colorado. She loves spring in east Texas, especially when the azaleas are in bloom. She also enjoys books and needlework and is currently working on needlepoint Christmas stockings. She adores animals. Just ask her incredibly spoiled Golden Retriever who is firmly convinced he is Eve's third child. Eve enjoys cooking except when she is in the throes of creating, and has been known to tell her husband that is what peanut butter and jelly was created for.

DONNELL: Eve, thank you for joining us on GLIAS. Are you a big city or small town girl?

EVE: In between. I've lived in both and now live in a mid sized city. I'm more city girl than country girl, that's for sure.

DONNELL: Favorite room in your house?

EVE: My study. Lots of books, my computer, my desk. If it's messy it's my mess. Which it is right now, as a matter of fact.:)

DONNELL: You’re been called the author of EVE’s men. So here’s a hard question for you. Which one would you invite to dinner?

EVE: Ooh, that is hard. One of them is a doctor, and since I'm married to a doctor I guess I wouldn't ask him. I like them all. I think I'd ask Devlin Sinclair, from On Thin Ice. He's handsome, smooth, witty. Oh, wait. That describes all of them!

DONNELL: Do you read your reviews?

EVE: Yes. Can't help myself. I try not to let bad ones get to me. I have to remind myself that not everyone is going to like my books. The good ones are always fun, though.

DONNELL: Are you athletic?

EVE: I used to be. I snow ski and walk and hike. I don't think I'm really athletic though.

DONNELL: What’s in your refrigerator right now?

EVE: I'm always on Weight Watchers, so I have a lot of fruit, milk, diet drinks, ground meat waiting for me to do something inspiring with it for dinner. (Not going to happen.) Some veggies. Creamer because I'm a coffee addict and must have my fat free creamer.

DONNELL: The first book of yours that I read had a very authentic medical scene. I’m always astounded when authors get it right. Do you have a medical background?

EVE: I've been married to a doctor for a long time. I am always asking him questions. I also have a lot of doctor friends and ask them about their specialties. Plus my daughter is now a Physician's Assistant, so I have access to lots of medical professionals. I did kind of laugh at one comment that said the book was a little dated because the doctor used a pager. My husband still uses a pager, as do a lot of doctors I know. They get the page and then use their cell phone to call in.

DONNELL: You write romantic suspense… so write your way out of this one. You’re in a private plane and the pilot has been poisoned. You’re already at 12,000 feet. You suspect one of the four people onboard is guilty. (Note I didn’t say the pilot is alive or dead) so you can do whatever you want to make this work.

EVE: The pilot dies. Luckily one of the others can fly the plane and make an emergency landing near a remote forest. We all have to depend on each other to get back to civilization, so although everyone suspects each other, we have to trust each other to survive. Naturally two of the people fall in love and figure out who the bad guy is and he is taken into custody in the end.

DONNELL:   Love it!!! Do you need quiet to write, or do you thrive around chaos?

EVE: Definitely quiet. Sometimes I can write when it's noisy but not usually. I like music but only when I'm not writing. I have a soundtrack I make and listen to in the car, etc. But not while actually writing. I don't see how people write in Starbucks and such. I'm far too distractible.

DONNELL: Where is the most interesting place you’ve traveled?

EVE: I went to Europe when I was young. I still remember Florence in particular and falling madly in love with Renaissance art. That started my Michelangelo period where I read anything I could find about him. Irving Stone's The Agony and the Ecstasy was great.

DONNELL: Name the most unusual thing you have in your closet.

EVE: I have a big walk in closet and it generally looks as if a bomb went off. I always have something that seems much more interesting to do than clean my closet. I don't think there's anything unusual now but one time a squirrel got into my bathroom and ran around in the closet until I screamed bloody murder for my husband to come get it out!

DONNELL: If you could meet any person, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

EVE:  I'd like to see my grandfather again. He died when I was thirteen and I'd love to meet him and talk to him as an adult. He taught Greek and Mathematics, was an attorney for a big oil company and also was a judge. He lived for many years in Mexico and was a huge Texas Longhorn fan, having played football on their first team. I'm sure he'd have many fascinating stories to tell.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN, EVE. TIME TO ASK THE READER A QUESTION.

EVE GADDY: For romantic suspense readers, what really wows you in a romantic suspense? Do you want intricately plotted suspense, lots of romance, a blend of both? What gets your attention? What makes you finish the book.

  1. Love reading about fellow BB authors and their books, journey, etc!

The squirrel thing made me laugh - as many squirrels as we have hanging around out little log house, I am amazed one hasn't run in here yet!

    1. Thanks, Kathryn. The squirrel is funny now but at the time I wasn't at all amused!

  3. Love these interviews and so honored that Ms. Gaddy joined me. I particularly related to the squirrel in the closet. Trust me in Colorado we have squirrels. A friend of mine opend her closet door and found several running up and down her husband's clothing. That would have laid me out flat, I assure you!

I also wish you could see your grandfather again, Eve. Wouldn't that be something to see his wisdom.

Best wishes on all of your fabulous books!

    1. Thanks, Donnell, for the opportunity to chat with you. I must say I'd rather have a squirrel in the closet than a bear. I read about a lady in Steamboat Springs who came home to bear footprints everywhere and the bear in her kitchen eating her brownies!

    2. Hmmm, yes, I quite see your point. Squirrel/bear... yes, I'll take the squirrel :))))

  4. Welcome to GLIAS, Eve. Thanks for "getting lost" today!

What keeps me reading a romantic suspense? Not being able to figure out the ending. Same with movies. I like the unpredictable. Loved your excerpt.

    1. Thanks, Angi. Happy to be here.

It's interesting to me that some people are able to figure out the endings easily. I never am. With my own, in fact, I don't usually know the ending until I get there.

  5. I need to be teased throughout the story about the identity of the villain. I like heavy doses of danger and suspense. I am a sucker for a protective hero which usually means putting the heroine in a dangerous situation. The heightened emotions of the couple usually leads to a romantic situation, which I love. I would say I want 50% danger and 50% romance.

    1. Hi, Stacie. I like a good blend of both suspense and romance as well. I also like protective heroes, but I like really strong women too.

  6. Hi Eve,
It's so nice to meet you here. I'm always excited to add another new set of books to my TBR piles! Loved your interview--and, yes, the squirrel story was fun. I'd rather have a squirrel than the snakes we used to find in our basement. Talk about a cartoon lady up on her chair screaming!

As for RS - I just plain love anything clever. Of course we all love romance--but if the story moves beyond the cliche' then I'm hooked to the last page!

I'm looking forward to reading your books--thanks for visiting today!

  8. Great interview. I like the blend of both. I finish the book if the story is good.
